What motivates you?
The woman I want to be tomorrow is my greatest motivation. Each day I commit myself to doing one thing that will help me grow, develop and become more like the woman I want to be in the future. On days I feel selfish and I start talking myself out of my dreams, my daughter motivates me. My daily task is ensuring first she feels loved. Second, that she feels supported and empowered. And third, that she will be able to thrive in a future where she can not only see herself represented in spaces and areas she strives to be in, but has the opportunity to be successful in those areas as well.
What does success mean to you?
Success for me means living an empowered life on purpose, with purpose. To find that purpose, we have to believe in our innate value and the power of who we are and what we have to offer. I know I’m being successful when I am able to encourage and equip even one woman to stand in her truth and to live, speak, and exist in the fullness of her power.
What's your most embarrassing moment in a professional setting?
I could categorize forgetting my lines while performing as my most embarrassing professional moment. Although, I don’t really think it’s embarrassing because as a performer you have to have such a level of confidence in what you are saying - and yourself really - that you can’t sweat the small stuff. I just like to think, that audience probably didn’t need to hear those lines or that piece anyway and move on to the next thing they should hear.
What's your favorite podcast or blog?
It’s a tie for podcasts; Birth Stories in Color Podcast - a platform for women of colour to share their birthing experiences - and Dressed for Battle Podcast - a faith based empowerment podcast that aims to encourage women to overcome the daily challenges of life.
Can you share a quote you often refer to?
Our family motto “I am an impenetrable force that cannot be broken because I am a child of God and He loves me."
Name one thing you do constantly that has contributed to your success.
Affirmations - hands down. Sometimes that reminder in the moment of anxiety, fear, or nerves is just what you need to push you into action. The power of believing in yourself and in turn the ability to execute and achieve your dreams with heart and confidence is unmatched.
